So last night I finally got a chance to sit for a few hours and work on the Delphinium for my special order. The flowers changed quite a bit from what they looked like originally, but I think they look much better. I got rid of the purple color entirely (there is a pick of the practice flowers in an earlier post), and stuck with the bright blue. For some reason the paper needed more layers of watercolor than usual, so it took a while to get the color right.
There are a lot of steps to these flowers. There are the buds, the larger buds just about to open, the flowers (which are actually 3 punches together and the painted stamen), the layer underneath the flowers to make them sit away from the stem more, and eventually the leaves.
Overall, the Delphinium were a little challenging, but very very fun. I completely lost track of time, and before I knew it the clock read 10:30! Anyway, here are some photos. I'm pretty happy with them, and I think my customer is too :)
